The Garden Science Program at Goornong Primary School provides students with the opportunity to learn real-life skills in an engaging outdoor environment. The school’s garden provides a context for learning about life-cycles, seasonality and healthy eating. The learning provides a hands-on opportunity to develop the students’ understanding of sustainability and to teach them about environmental stewardship.
In the garden the students have planted and looked after vegetables, looked after our chooks and the eggs that they lay, investigated the different types of bugs that inhabit the environmnet surrounding our school, and tested the soil and added nutrients to ensure optimum growing conditions.
Each class participates in weekly lessons in the school garden with our wonderful Garden Science teacher, Miss Nicholls.
